I just picked up the other volumes and would love to know the gist of them at least. if anyone knows please let me know paul@dogmeatsausage.comPaul Harmonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12977898132207849803noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2373762165611364039.post-30994563847287095662007-04-13T16:09:00.000-07:002007-04-13T16:09:00.000-07:00I'm damn curious about Hanazawa as well. That's a mighty fine pile of books and the knowledge you splurge like this frequently makes my collection feel tiny and insignificant.

I keep telling myself size doesn't matter, but gosh darn it, it's a pride thing. :(

On a side note, I love Dorehedoro, simply because, as mentioned, it's hilarious. And I do so love me that art.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2373762165611364039.post-65727419141967759942007-04-11T18:45:00.000-07:002007-04-11T18:45:00.000-07:00Naturally I'd like to know what you think of the S...Naturally I'd like to know what you think of the Shiriagari books. Furuya is my favorite mangaka after Shiriagari and I've never seen Donki Kourin (I'd never even heard of it before this review), so I'd be interested in a review of that too.

Have you ever tried special-ordering books from Sanseidoh? That's how I get most of my Japanese-language manga these days. It usually comes within 2-3 weeks, and there's no additional fee beyond the markup on in-store items.

That doesn't work for out-of-print stuff, of course. I've bought one out-of-print manga from amazon.co.jp, and I placed an order for two others a couple days ago. But Acclimate Solutions sounds like a good resource for stuff that amazon.co.jp doesn't list.Adamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13524952709453904676noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2373762165611364039.post-25484373089915529132007-04-11T15:43:00.000-07:002007-04-11T15:43:00.000-07:00Hot damn that is a nice looking pile of manga. So y...Hot damn that is a nice looking pile of manga.

So you're taking requests? Kengo Hanazawa. You're probably eager to get at one of his series anyway, but I request it nevertheless.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2373762165611364039.post-72013860545391903872007-04-10T19:56:00.000-07:002007-04-10T19:56:00.000-07:00Donki Kourin is like Palepoli-lite. It's not quite as genius as Palepoli, but it's still a good read for what it is, and I think the concept (creating a manga based on essays submitted by the reader) is pretty clever. It's also pretty funny how the art quality patently deteoriates as the series progresses.

And it's about time you read some Kan Takahama!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2373762165611364039.post-34033946866909920962007-04-10T03:18:00.000-07:002007-04-10T03:18:00.000-07:00Dorohedoro takes a full book or two to really get ...Dorohedoro takes a full book or two to really get cooking, but once you've grown accustomed to it, there are two great draws: it's actually got hilariously black humor in spades, and Hayashida has a lot of creativity in the world-creation department. I wasn't really expecting to fall in love with it, but I was quite surprised.

The character art is admittedly weird, like Otomo on steroids, but I dig the griminess.flyingrobotshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18336906525664369023noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2373762165611364039.post-58654321141633450912007-04-10T02:45:00.000-07:002007-04-10T02:45:00.000-07:00Damn... I've been so mad about Viz going for kids and abandoning No.5, now you've reminded me about it again.
/me fuels rage
Curse them!
Anyways, I love Matsumoto works and one have to give Viz credit too, for putting out B&W, Blue Spring and those 2 No.5 vols.

Regarding Dorohedoro, I guess I should ask Zyph if the project is moving on since he asked me to edit it quite a while ago.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2373762165611364039.post-29506924574986514352007-04-09T20:54:00.000-07:002007-04-09T20:54:00.000-07:00Well I'm mighty interested in that Shiriagari fell...Well I'm mighty interested in that Shiriagari fella (and was really bummed when no one else had read him at MS), so I'll look forward to hearing your take on his work. Takahama is pretty amazing in general, though I haven't read Awabi yet (who knows when Fanfare is going to publish it).
And Dorohedoro is actually good? I kind of stopped reading right after the first chapter or something...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
